<p>I have been working on a website for a local Labradoodle Breeder<br />
this summer. We moved her website over to WordPress and have been<br />
meeting regularly to hammer out an internet marketing strategy.<br />
Today we talked about building an email marketing campaign&#8230; and<br />
as we were brainstorming content options for her<br />
emails, I brought up asking her current Facebook friends and<br />
customers what they would like to see in a regular email.</p>
<p>Do you ever get caught in the trap of thinking you need to portray<br />
a certain image of having all the answers with your customers<br />
and/or readers? Sometimes we think we have to know it all with our<br />
customers or with those we interact with in our business world&#8230;<br />
when the truth is, there is incredible value in asking your<br />
customer questions or just plain listening to them.</p>
<p>Back in 2003, I had just started my HuntedTreasure subscription<br />
site offering research on used children&#8217;s items. At the time I<br />
had an idea of where I wanted my business to go&#8230; but, no planning<br />
could have prepared me for where it went &#8211; and really, it&#8217;s all<br />
because I listened to my customers and readers! I wish I could<br />
remember her name&#8230; but, in October of 2003 I received an email<br />
loaded with questions about how to sell toys during the holidays on<br />
eBay. I spent a lot of time answering all of her questions&#8230; and<br />
then realized that she probably wasn&#8217;t the only one with those<br />
excellent questions. I threw her questions and my answers (along<br />
with other great info about listing on eBay and researching holiday<br />
toys) into a pdf and created a short report that has since grown<br />
into the Holiday Toy Guide. Although I never expected the Holiday<br />
Toy Guide to grow like it has, it has become one of largest revenue<br />
generators in my product offering line-up&#8230; All because I listened<br />
to my customer&#8217;s needs and took it one step further to offer<br />
the information I was giving to all my readers.</p>
<p>I want to encourage you to embrace the value of customer feedback<br />
(even the negative is something we can learn from). Take the time<br />
to ask your customers what they are interested in. Take note of the<br />
questions they are asking you. And grow your business to offer a<br />
solution for them based on what you learn. This will look different<br />
for everyone&#8230; maybe you sell children&#8217;s clothing and you get<br />
a lot of questions about caring for used items to make them last.<br />
This could be the topic of a short report or blog that you offer<br />
your potential customers. For me it was about selling toys<br />
online&#8230; What will it be for you?</p>
