1. Your About Me Page: Making It Work For You

A couple of weeks ago I received an email with a question that I imagine others have as well…

“I am soo confused about how to acquire my mailing list..how do you get someone visiting your items (watching)…their email?”

Sound familiar?

Here is the response I sent:
“Hello…

Sorry I didn’t get back to you yesterday about your questions in this email… you have some great questions!

First of all…

You asked how to get people visiting your items to give you their email…

It is really simple, really – you can use your listing to point people to your About Me page. Do you have an about me page? If not, you really should – and then make sure you take the most advantage of it! Basically, on your about me page would be a place for them to sign up to be on your mailing list… usually you have to give them something in exchange for their email – but, that can be done by putting together a small report that has something to do with the products you are providing. So, let’s say you are selling pet products… or even more specifically, dog kennels. You could put together a little report about how to kennel train a dog. This report doesn’t have to be anything you write – you could collect articles from other people who might know the subject matter better.

Then, at the top of every listing – before you even mention the item up for auction… in bold letters – say something like:

“Learn How To Kennel Train Your Dog With My Free Report… Available On My About Me Page”

Or something like that… and then link it to your About Me page.

Your About Me page would have a little something about the report and how if they leave their email and name, you’ll have the report sent to them immediately for them to download.

It is important that you mention to them that they are signing up to be on your mailing list and then give them a little more info on what that means. For example, you could offer more tips for dog owners… and/or coupons and discounts to mailing list members.”

How are you using your About Me page? Are you using it to share more about you… or are you using it to really build your business? There is nothing wrong with sharing more about you on your About Me page – but, it is KEY to building a mailing list through eBay because you get prospects… not just customers.

Look at it this way…
You only get one customer from each listing… but, you could be getting thousands of visitors. Why not do what you can to harness that traffic into a mailing list so that you can sell to them later?
