Hello ~
Have you heard? A lot of people are saying that eBay is dead… again.
It just might be for some people – but, I really think it all comes down to your business strategy.
I think eBay is alive and well… read on to find out why.
Enjoy!

PS. I’m about to close up the Start Here Blogging course for a bit. We are just about to our limit. If you are interested in learning how to set up a blog for your eBay business… and build new automated revenue streams, you’ll want to check it out. In fact, if you get in before the end of the week, I’ll knock off $5 every single month!

BUT if you want to save $30 on the course, use this special link before Friday at midnight:

Here is what people are saying:
“I think overall you have taken a dificult subject and taught us how to make a blog that will be very productive for us.”
“Great course and great price.”
“The scope of the course is so comprehensive, and so clearly explained, that I really think anyone who can read and follow instructions can do it. The course broke down the most technical and complicated processes into small easily understood steps. There’s no way I could have done it on my own and come out with such a professional product.”
“I like that the lessons, especially the early ones, were clear and broken down step-by-step, and the flow into more complicated processes was gradual and well organized.”
An Excellent Question You Should Be Asking About Your eBay Business
Thanks for the kind words about the report I sent you yesterday. You’re Welcome!
As I have learned different internet marketing strategies over the years, I always come back to how they can relate to eBay sellers. List Building is no different.
In fact, some of you are asking the same question…
“As an eBay seller, WHY should I pay attention to something like building a mailing list?”
Your mailing list is a very powerful tool that helps build relationship with not just your customers… but those that just visit your listings and never bid!
Your goal quickly shifts from just selling a product… to getting eBay visitors to join your mailing list. Why?
So you have an opportunity to build relationship with them. People are much more likely to buy from someone they trust.
When your goal, then, is to get them to join your mailing list… and you learn the skill of selling to that list – suddenly whether or not your listings sell on eBay isn’t so important anymore. You are more concerned with harnessing the traffic from your auctions.
Look at it this way…
Let’s say you have an item listed on eBay and you are thinking you’ll get $40 profit once it sells.
Scenario #1:
In the first scenario, you don’t have a mailing list or a blog. You are solely listing items on eBay for your business.
You are happy to have made an easy 40 bucks… and hope the buyer considers your items for future purchases.
Scenario #2:
In this scenario, you have a mailing list… and you have a system in place to drive those visiting your auctions to a webpage that gives them an incentive to join your list.
Why You Need A Mailing List…
I have been hearing a lot about list building lately… have you?
I put together this short report that talks about why you need a mailing list to grow your ebay or online business.
You can download it here:

Enjoy!

Usually this time of year I spend a lot of time reflecting… as
well as looking forward. I don’t know about you, but I have a list
of things I want to finish up before the end of the month… just
so I can simply FOCUS when January hits.
What about you?
What are your plans for 2010, {!firstname}?
As I have talked with many eBay sellers this past year… I have
found that there are a lot of sellers out there who are
discouraged. For different reasons, they feel like eBay just isn’t
what it once was and that they missed out.
Well… they are right.
eBay isn’t what it use to be. In fact, nothing is what it use to
be. The beauty of that, however, is that this change just brings us
new opportunities!
We all have a choice to either focus on what use to be… or look
forward to what could be. I must be an optimist at heart… because
I choose to look forward and take advantage of the opportunities
available to us.
What are you going to choose?
What are you going to focus on for your business this next year?

Are you looking for a step-by-step program to help you get started with a blog to create new revenue for your eBay business? Discounted Charter Memberships are almost gone over at http://www.StartHereProgram.com/blogging
Look at what Deena had to say about the Start Here Blogging program for eBayers:
“Hi, Jenni,
Thank you!
I just wanted to tell you what an AWESOME job you’re doing with the Blog lesson system.
I’m about to start Lesson 9, and I just can’t believe all the information, step-by-step instructions, knowledge, and advice you are providing.
I would have had to read a zillion books and web sites to learn about it, and still never be able to narrow it down and get it done. Just poking around other web sites leads to mass confusion and eventual inaction.
I’m looking forward to the next lessons…
Thanks again for a great program – I know you put a tremendous amount of work into it, and I hope it brings you wealth and fame!”

Back To The Basics…
Do you have an About Me page? I sure hope so…
I’ve been spending a lot of time on eBay poking around, researching trends and I am always suprised at the number of sellers (even power sellers) that do not have an About Me page! And, most of those that do – aren’t using it to it’s full potential… talk about leaving money on the table.
If you DON’T have an About Me page, you need to pay attention.
If you DO, you need to pay attention.
Your About Me page on eBay is one of your biggest eBay assets when it comes to creating multiple revenue streams. It is one of the KEYS to USING eBay to grow your business instead of eBay using you).
More Than eBay…
I’m not the only one who thinks that there is more to building a successful eBay business than eBay itself.
Jim Cockrum over at My-Silent-Team (http://www.My-Silent-Team.com) mentioned in his last newsletter that eBay is no longer enough… and I couldn’t agree more! Not only are other options for selling items becoming more and more popular for BUYERS (craigslist, amazon, and more)… but, if you really want to grow your business – you have to view eBay as a TOOL for your business not the actual business itself.
Sure, you can sell on eBay and make some money with the items you are selling — and many are doing quite well with this model still; however, many sellers are frustrated with the control eBay has over them as a seller and are looking to grow beyond just selling. Plus – it is always a good idea to NOT have all your eggs in one basket.
This is no surprise – I’ve been talking about this for a long time. In fact, my Start Here Program is designed to help you move beyond eBay and into gaining more CONTROL over your business. (You can learn more about the Start Here Program here – as of this writing, there are still a few Charter memberships available.)
I also cannot say enough about Jim Cockrum and the information he provides. Almost 7 years ago I stumbled on his Silent Sales Machine ebook and it completely changed the way I view my eBay business… I have never looked back! You can sign up for Jim’s free newsletter HERE – top right corner. You can also look at his archive… including his take on eBay not being enough anymore.

Hi ~
Looking for ways to give your business a little kick this week?
I’ll give you three…
1. Write
2. Get Involved
3. Improve Your Listings
1. Write
Write a short article (500 words) that talks about an aspect of
what you are selling on eBay and submit it to article directories
for others to publish on their websites and blogs.
How does this give your eBay business a kick?
I love to use what Jimmy D. Brown coined as the ‘useful, but
complete’ approach when using freebies of any kind (and articles
are free tid-bits of information). What he means by that is simply
this: You provide the reader with “useful” information (something
they find of value and are able to actually apply) but make certain
that it is ‘incomplete’ in that they can better use the information
by making a purchase from you.
Have you sold any eBay items with twitter?
I was reading this article… Which led me to this post… and I got to thinking about this idea. I’m just getting my feet wet with twitter – and haven’t tried this strategy…
but, I’m wondering if you have?
What do you think?
Could Twitter replace eBay and/or craigslist?

If you run any kind of business… whether you like it or not, you are somehow involved in marketing. In fact, even if you don’t realize it, you are marketing your business. It happens whether you have a ‘formal’ plan or not… It happens when you tell other people what you do – either by word of mouth, through email, flyers on bulletin boards… or however else you communicate your business services/products to potential customers.
Here is the thing…
As an eBay seller, you have a choice.
You can A. Let eBay do all the marketing for you (and your competition)…
You can B. Let eBay affiliate marketers do your marketing (and your competition)…
Or,
You can C. Take the reigns into your own hands and do your own marketing.
What’s cool about Option C is that it is kind of an ‘all of the above’ sort of thing. Not only will you benefit from your own marketing efforts – you will continue to benefit from eBay and other affiliate marketers as well.
You must have a plan if you are going to be marketing your online business though… Before we get into how to develop a plan, I want to be very clear that marketing is not the same as advertising. Advertising can be a piece of your marketing plan; however, placing ads on various websites is not in itself a marketing plan.

One of the things I have talked about numerous times is the value of selling within a niche. When I’m talking about a niche – I’m talking about a group of products that the same audience has an interest for. The ‘tighter’ your niche is (or the more focused it is), the less competition you should have selling to that market.
So – for example…
Clothing or apparel is a niche… but a tighter, more focused niche would be women’s clothing or children’s clothing. You could sell just clothing in general – but, think about how much more you could cross-promote your items if you were only selling women’s, children’s OR men’s clothing.
If you know your customers are interested in women’s clothing – it is easy to create offers for them to purchase more from you. (And, remember, it is always easier to sell to those already showing an interest in buying from you!) On the other hand, if you are just selling clothing in general… you won’t know your customers as well and will have difficulty effectively promoting other products you are selling. In other words, if you cross promote to your other auctions and most of them are dresses – but, this particular customer is a man who has bought a jacket from you… it is likely your promotion won’t be all that effective.

Last year when I started this Auction Strategists Newsletter, I promised to only send our a newsletter when I had quality content to offer. If you are like me – you are bombarded from every direction with all kinds of INFORMATION… the last thing you need is just another thing to read.
At the same time, you have probably been looking for ways to grow your eBay business in this crazy economy… I have spent most of the last year analyzing different strategies that I’ve used and that many of my mentors have used to grow their business and I’m really looking forward to sharing with you what I have learned.
More than anything – I have noticed a gap in the helpful information that is available to you as an eBay seller… there are some great resources for learning how to sell better and increase your bids/sales/etc. But, what if you want more? Any business owner recognizes that putting all your eggs in one basket (ie., eBay) isn’t wise. What if you want to add baskets or various revenue streams? Again, there are some fabulous resources out there that teach how to grow an online business… but, who do you listen to? I’ve spent 6+ years learning about internet marketing. I’ve bought into some cheezy stuff in that time… and I’ve learned who to trust. I am more than happy to share these resources with you… and often have; however, I’ve noticed something… and this is where that gap is. Many eBay sellers are having a difficult time applying the strategies that ‘internet marketers’ are teaching to their eBay business. It is likely that you understand that adding a blog, for example, is a good idea for your business – you’ve probably heard that many times… but do you understand the why? And, if you do… do you understand how to apply a blog to your current eBay business so that it grows what you already have going instead of starting over?
New resource page for you
Many people have asked if I have a list of resources that I use (or have used) to grow my own online business. I do… and I finally put some of them onto a web page! At this point, I’m only sharing this page here on my blog – I don’t have any links to it from my other sites… I threw it together and would like to put a little more time into it before I let the whole world know about it
If you are looking for resources about blogging and internet marketing in general – check out my resource page here: www.jennihunt.com/resources
Enjoy! Oh – and if you see something missing that you are interested in learning more about… let me know… the resource page is a work in progress.

1. Thinking Ahead – Plans for 2009
=====================================
It’s November already… and before we get too into the Holiday Season, it is important to look ahead to the New Year. I know… I know… crazy – but, time flies and I guarantee if you take the time now to look ahead, it will be time well spent.
Some people like to get into great detail when they look ahead to the next year… I’m not one of those people. First of all, I just don’t have the time to plan every week out… but, more importantly, I have learned first hand, that things don’t always go as planned. Life happens… One of the beauties of working from home and having your own online business is that you are able to be flexible when life get’s in the way – besides… isn’t that why you have your own business? So life CAN get in the way?
The best piece you can add to your plan for 2009 is flexibility. Start with an umbrella or high level plan for the year — think of 4-5 ways you want to grow your business or business goals and write them down. You could include things such as:
- find more inventory resources for reselling
- implement a plan for building a mailing list
- learn how to set up my own blog
- find blogs that I will regularly visit and comment on to become a part of the community and help establish myself in that particular market
- write a report to give away as incentive to join my mailing list
- increase ebay revenue by 20%
- add 2 new revenue streams
I could go on – but, you get the idea.

1. Revisiting the Value of Your Mailing List
=====================================
It took me at least 2 years of runnning my online business before I started to seriously understand the incredible value of building a mailing list. I had a membership site and thought that my list of subscribers was enough… boy was I wrong!
I know we have talked about this topic numorous times before… but, it is worth bringing up again – and here is why.
Why I’ve Been UNSUBSCRIBING To Amazing Newsletters… and it feels great!
Is your inbox FULL of newsletters and ezine’s that you know are really great – but, you just don’t read?… and so they pile up… and pile up. I use to be scared of missing out on the latest and greatest… thinking that if I didn’t sign up for ‘this’ or ‘that’ I would regret it for… well, for as long as I was in business.
No More!
I have been unsubscribing like crazy to all these incredible newsletters… I know they are full of great content to help me grow my business… but, I also know that I am so overwhelmed with the 300+ emails I receive a day that I would benefit more if I just focused on a couple of newsletters from those I respected most. Let me tell you – it is doing wonders for my focus!
Jimmy D. Brown is one of those mentors who I will always follow. I respect the way he runs his business and he is incredibly successful at what he does. You probably haven’t heard of him – he isn’t really in the eBay world… but, he is all about building a list and driving traffic (both of which are applicable to eBay sellers).
Anyhow, last year I jumped at the chance to be privately coached by Jimmy… all I can say is… wow! He is one of the top internet marketers in the WORLD and only works 3 hours each day. He has launched three of the most successful internet marketing membership sites in the world, created more than 75 products, built a huge viral affiliate network, grows huge lists and generates tens of thousands of visitors monthly… working only 3 hours a day! And, his coaching program taught me how to do the same… let me tell you – this stuff WORKS!

1. Using Small Reports In Your eBay Business
=====================================
Lately we have been talking about driving traffic to your auctions (or website) through blogging… but, let’s take a step back and look at the big picture for a minute.
I’m going to make an assumption that the goal of eBay sellers is to bring in a profit (I know, it’s a stretch
. There are two types of sellers – those who are hobby sellers and those who are building a business. I’m going to focus on those who are interested in growing their business.
Okay – this might sound really simple… but, stay with me – sometimes it is good to realize how simple strategies really are.
How do you bring in money from selling on eBay?
There are a couple things you need…
First of all, you need to have a product to sell. You can sell your own product or someone elses… but, it is a must that you have ’something’ to sell.
Secondly… to have a successful sale on eBay, you have to have a customer. Where does this customer come from? They come from the traffic or visitors that come to your auction listing… either through eBay or another link that directly goes to your listing. Every visitor to your site is a potential customer.

Rethinking Strategies That Have Been Around For Years
=====================================
Last night I received an email… honestly, I didn’t read the whole thing – in fact, I didn’t get past the first sentence or two… Not because the topic didn’t catch my attention, quite the opposite actually.
The topic was about UPSELLING. And, although it was referring to marketing online… my mind immediately went to a waitressing job I had college. I use to be a waitress at a restaurant that offered incredible customer service training. One of the courses we were required to take was about upselling. (If you think this has nothing to do with eBay… think again
Keep reading…)
Here is what upselling looks like in the restaurant business…
“Would you like fries with that?”
“How about some ice cream on your warmed slice of pie?”
Or
“Sure, I could get you coffee with that… but, a café mocha is a perfect complement. Would you like to try one?”
“Would you like another drink?”
“How about cheese on your hamburger?”
“Was that a large orange juice?”
… all asked while shaking your head ‘yes’
By the time my customer’s added cheese to their burger, ordered a large drink, added ice cream to their desert and upgraded to a café mocha – the bill went up $5 easy… and that translated to higher tips for me.
How important is efficiency?
I’ve discovered a new little cafe that I now call my ‘office’… Twice a week, I come here, sit in a cozy chair in the corner, and focus on my business. As much as I enjoy coming here… there is something that always bothers me about it.
There is absolutely no efficiency for how this place is run.
You walk in the door… and maybe there is someone at the register. Once they are free to help you – they take your order. I usually order a bagel with cream cheese (their french toast bagels are to DIE FOR!)… While I am pulling out my wallet to pay, the cashier steps away to get my bagel ready. They cut it and toast it… and a few minutes later set it in front of me. All the while, a line is building up behind me.
My latte order goes to the ‘drink bar’; however, there usually isn’t someone there to take it. So, after I have paid, the cashier will go to the drink bar and make my drink… again, while a huge line is building behind me. Another employee might come up to a register to help the next customer – but, they do the same thing… get the bagel, prepare the drink… all before helping the next customer. If you order a sandwich or salad – it is dealt with differently. They give you a pager and send you to find a table.
I’ve worked in the restaurant business and there is a huge part of me that wants to talk with the manager here and suggest another way of running the front counter.
