Be Sure To Include This In Your 2012 Plan!
Can you believe that we are in November already?
I’m still wondering where in the world ARIL went… seriously! (had to leave that type-o… guess I know why I don’t know where Aril went – sheesh.
)
I know I have said it before, but it’s true.
The older I get, the faster time seems to fly by – we have less than 2 months of 2011 left! I say that if you haven’t thought about your 2012 business strategy, now couldn’t be a better time!
I’m planning to dig into this deeper in the weeks to come… but, I wanted to offer you some general thoughts to consider as you make your 2012 plan.
1. FOLLOW UP from what you are doing right now.
If the holidays are a hot selling season for you (if you are selling toys, you will be very busy over the next 4-8 weeks!)… NOW is the time to develop a plan for how you plan to follow up with all of your customers come the New Year.
*SIDE NOTE* I know many of you are selling toys this holiday – so I’m going to stick with this as an example; however, even if you are selling something in another market, the principles below can apply.
If you are selling toys for Christmas… it is likely that when the New Year comes, the same people aren’t going to be so interested in buying toys again.
So – how can you follow up and keep in touch with this customer base? You know your audience best; however, the question to ask is:
“What else are these people interested in?”
“If they were interested in TOYS, then they will also be interested in… what?”

We have been talking about the value of having a membership site as a part of your online business strategy in the last few newsletters.
You are right – it might not sound like an eBay topic… but, I have often said that if you have all of your eggs in the ‘eBay basket’ than not only are you leaving money on the table – but, you are working too hard!
You can USE eBay to build an audience for your market or niche…and then drive your traffic to other products you offer such as a blog, an ebook, or a membership site… the list really does go on and on..
But, lately, we have been talking about building a very simple membership site. Membership sites are great no matter what market you are in. Not only do they provide the security of a monthly income, but they are an excellent way to build relationship withyour customers… and it doesn’t have to be complicated – OR take alot of your time!
In fact, today I want to share with you how you can set it up andthen forget about it! Seriously.
See, it use to be complicated to get a membership site up andrunning… and then, upkeep was extremely time-consuming!
But, that has all changed!!
I’ve put together a 5 part series that shares some of the gold-nuggets in this new Start Here Membership course I’ve been developing that walks you through setting up your own membership site.
If you are interested in learning more about what a membership site looks like and how it can be a revenue generating tool for your online business, then you’ll want to follow along.

We have been talking about the value of building a membership site.
I know, I know… on the outside, it might not seem like a topic eBay sellers would be interested in.
Let me ask you something – Do you have a business that is completely dependent on eBay? I mean, is all of your income coming from auctions you list on eBay?
If so… How is that working for you?
Don’t get me wrong – I believe eBay is a fantastic tool for online business owners. My business has been built around eBay; however, if you think that all of my revenue comes from auctions – you’re mistaking. I have learned to USE my eBay business to grow multiple revenue streams…
And YOU CAN TOO!
There are so many ways to do this… it isn’t even funny. We have talked about many of them here. From blogging… to writing and publishing an eBook, to pointing people to Amazon for commissions… to building a mailing list…
But lately, I’ve started talking about building a very simplemembership site.
As I mentioned a few days ago in a previous newsletter, the beautyof membership sites is that it gives you the security of a monthly income.
Think about that for a minute. What if you could haverepeat customers… month after month?
For years I have been talking about the importance of building relationship with your customers… We have talked about how much easier it is to sell to an existing or previous customer than tofind a new one.
Auction Strategists: Costumes Are On The Rise!

Are You Leaving Money on the Table?
7 years ago this month, I launched my first membership site (HuntedTreasure) to help sellers know what used children’s items to sell on eBay… At the time, I had been personally trained by a Power Seller – and had numerous mentors support me as I shared what I knew to help others.
It took me a few years before I was ready to face SEO (or search engine optimization). Frankly, it intimidated me. But, I finally got to a point, where I realized that if I didn’t learn how to get the attention of search engines – and how to have my listings and membership site rank well with them, I would be leaving money on the table.
Let me ask you… Are you leaving money on the table because you are not applying simple strategies that encourage Google and other search engines to find you?
There is no magic formula for ranking with search engines… HOWEVER, there is a whole slew of little things you can be doing with your listings to optimize them for maximum search engine ranking!
It’s one thing to have your potential customers find you because they went to eBay and searched for the item you have listed.
It’s a whole different story to have your potential bidders find you because they ‘googled’ and your listing just ‘happened’ to pop up as one of the top results from their search.
If you are not getting traffic from search engines… I guarantee that you are leaving money on the table – and in times like these, it’s best to take advantage of every venue you can to bring in those bidders.
Anyhow – I wanted to remind you about our newest training course that teaches you how to optimize your eBay listings for search engines.

Can your business survive?
I’ve said it before… and I’ll say it again…
Sometimes the healthiest thing we can do for our business(es) is to take a step back and breath for a while. Whether we are forced to take this ‘break’ because of health reasons, family issues, unexpected emergencies… or because we are just plain tired of how we have been doing things… No matter what the reasoning is behind it – we all need a break… a breather…
The question is… can your business survive if you do?
My answer is coming this weekend… thought I’d give you an opportunity to mull this one over for a bit

If you have been selling for long on eBay – you probably know that it isn’t what it use to be. Sure, there is plenty of opportunity – in fact, we are seeling lots of people do very well this holiday season selling toys! But, eBay is known for nickel and diming you to death… and raising their fees… In some ways if your only revenue stream is from selling on eBay – you might even feel like you work FOR eBay instead of for yourself! The good news is that there is plenty of money on the table available through various revenue streams that are RELATED to what you are already doing on eBay. Adding a blog to your business strategy is a very simple way to add additional revenue streams and free you from being so dependent on eBay.
“As a not-too-new-but-new-enough-to-get-confused-easily-newbie (whew) your course is exactly the information I am needing. It’s an easy read, not over-hyped, you don’t assume I already know what you are talking about, and because it comes in small lessons, it builds anticipation for the next one! You obviously know what you’re writing because it is working! I gain confidence in myself each time I complete a lesson and can move on to the next.”
“I like that the lessons, especially the early ones, were clear and broken down step-by-step, and the flow into more complicated processes was gradual and well organized. Jenni, you have been terrific and very patient with my questions and your personalized help is greatly appreciated. I also like the fact that I can work at my own pace, and if I get too busy to do the lesson when it comes, I can do it whenever I want to. I also like the emphasis on passive income and as an eBay seller, I appreciate the advice pertaining to eBay.”
“I think overall you have taken a dificult subject and taught us how to make a blog that will be very productive for us.”
“My overall impression is positive. I like the way the class is structured, with new material arriving on a regular basis, giving me the opportunity to take it step by step. I am very new at this, and your course is giving me the kind of information I need to progress with my online business(es).”

=====================================
Hi ~
Today we are looking at how to continue to use eBay’s About Me page to build a mailing list – even though they have removed the policy allowing you to include links to outside websites.
This strategy is extremely important if you are going to move beyond just selling on eBay to USING eBay to grow your online business.
Just as many people use Google to grow their online business, you can use eBay… it is one of the TOP visited sites so you might as well take advantage of that traffic, right?
Be sure to check out the article (lesson) below… but, before you do – here are 3 ways you can USE eBay RIGHT NOW to grow your eBay busines.
1. Getting The Most Out Of Your Listing Title
Every word in the title for your listing should be there for a reason. Many people have an idea of what they are looking for on eBay and will skip browsing through the categories… and just go straight to that search box to enter in what they want.
If you want your listing to show up when they do that search for items like you are selling – YOU MUST HAVE KEYWORDS IN YOUR TITLE!
This means that your title has to have words that people use to search for your item in your title. Sometimes this takes a little bit of thought and creativity…
but, I’ll let you in on a secret…
using a title like this: @@@@ SUPER CUTE LADYBUG COSTUME!!! @@@@

“Great course and great price.”
“The scope of the course is so comprehensive, and so clearly explained, that I really think anyone who can read and follow instructions can do it. The course broke down the most technical and complicated processes into small easily understood steps. There’s no way I could have done it on my own and come out with such a professional product.”
“I like that the lessons, especially the early ones, were clear and broken down step-by-step, and the flow into more complicated processes was gradual and well organized.”
An Excellent Question You Should Be Asking About Your eBay Business
Thanks for the kind words about the report I sent you yesterday. You’re Welcome!
As I have learned different internet marketing strategies over the years, I always come back to how they can relate to eBay sellers. List Building is no different.
In fact, some of you are asking the same question…
“As an eBay seller, WHY should I pay attention to something like building a mailing list?”
Your mailing list is a very powerful tool that helps build relationship with not just your customers… but those that just visit your listings and never bid!
Your goal quickly shifts from just selling a product… to getting eBay visitors to join your mailing list. Why?
So you have an opportunity to build relationship with them. People are much more likely to buy from someone they trust.
When your goal, then, is to get them to join your mailing list… and you learn the skill of selling to that list – suddenly whether or not your listings sell on eBay isn’t so important anymore. You are more concerned with harnessing the traffic from your auctions.
Look at it this way…
Let’s say you have an item listed on eBay and you are thinking you’ll get $40 profit once it sells.
Scenario #1:
In the first scenario, you don’t have a mailing list or a blog. You are solely listing items on eBay for your business.
You are happy to have made an easy 40 bucks… and hope the buyer considers your items for future purchases.
Scenario #2:
In this scenario, you have a mailing list… and you have a system in place to drive those visiting your auctions to a webpage that gives them an incentive to join your list.
Why You Need A Mailing List…
I have been hearing a lot about list building lately… have you?
I put together this short report that talks about why you need a mailing list to grow your ebay or online business.
You can download it here:

Usually this time of year I spend a lot of time reflecting… as
well as looking forward. I don’t know about you, but I have a list
of things I want to finish up before the end of the month… just
so I can simply FOCUS when January hits.
What about you?
What are your plans for 2010, {!firstname}?
As I have talked with many eBay sellers this past year… I have
found that there are a lot of sellers out there who are
discouraged. For different reasons, they feel like eBay just isn’t
what it once was and that they missed out.
Well… they are right.
eBay isn’t what it use to be. In fact, nothing is what it use to
be. The beauty of that, however, is that this change just brings us
new opportunities!
We all have a choice to either focus on what use to be… or look
forward to what could be. I must be an optimist at heart… because
I choose to look forward and take advantage of the opportunities
available to us.
What are you going to choose?
What are you going to focus on for your business this next year?

Thank you!

Back To The Basics…
Do you have an About Me page? I sure hope so…
I’ve been spending a lot of time on eBay poking around, researching trends and I am always suprised at the number of sellers (even power sellers) that do not have an About Me page! And, most of those that do – aren’t using it to it’s full potential… talk about leaving money on the table.
If you DON’T have an About Me page, you need to pay attention.
If you DO, you need to pay attention.
Your About Me page on eBay is one of your biggest eBay assets when it comes to creating multiple revenue streams. It is one of the KEYS to USING eBay to grow your business instead of eBay using you).
More Than eBay…
I’m not the only one who thinks that there is more to building a successful eBay business than eBay itself.
Jim Cockrum over at My-Silent-Team (http://www.My-Silent-Team.com) mentioned in his last newsletter that eBay is no longer enough… and I couldn’t agree more! Not only are other options for selling items becoming more and more popular for BUYERS (craigslist, amazon, and more)… but, if you really want to grow your business – you have to view eBay as a TOOL for your business not the actual business itself.
Sure, you can sell on eBay and make some money with the items you are selling — and many are doing quite well with this model still; however, many sellers are frustrated with the control eBay has over them as a seller and are looking to grow beyond just selling. Plus – it is always a good idea to NOT have all your eggs in one basket.
This is no surprise – I’ve been talking about this for a long time. In fact, my Start Here Program is designed to help you move beyond eBay and into gaining more CONTROL over your business. (You can learn more about the Start Here Program here – as of this writing, there are still a few Charter memberships available.)
I also cannot say enough about Jim Cockrum and the information he provides. Almost 7 years ago I stumbled on his Silent Sales Machine ebook and it completely changed the way I view my eBay business… I have never looked back! You can sign up for Jim’s free newsletter HERE – top right corner. You can also look at his archive… including his take on eBay not being enough anymore.

Hi ~
Looking for ways to give your business a little kick this week?
I’ll give you three…
1. Write
2. Get Involved
3. Improve Your Listings
1. Write
Write a short article (500 words) that talks about an aspect of
what you are selling on eBay and submit it to article directories
for others to publish on their websites and blogs.
How does this give your eBay business a kick?
I love to use what Jimmy D. Brown coined as the ‘useful, but
complete’ approach when using freebies of any kind (and articles
are free tid-bits of information). What he means by that is simply
this: You provide the reader with “useful” information (something
they find of value and are able to actually apply) but make certain
that it is ‘incomplete’ in that they can better use the information
by making a purchase from you.
Have you sold any eBay items with twitter?
I was reading this article… Which led me to this post… and I got to thinking about this idea. I’m just getting my feet wet with twitter – and haven’t tried this strategy…
but, I’m wondering if you have?
What do you think?
Could Twitter replace eBay and/or craigslist?

If you run any kind of business… whether you like it or not, you are somehow involved in marketing. In fact, even if you don’t realize it, you are marketing your business. It happens whether you have a ‘formal’ plan or not… It happens when you tell other people what you do – either by word of mouth, through email, flyers on bulletin boards… or however else you communicate your business services/products to potential customers.
Here is the thing…
As an eBay seller, you have a choice.
You can A. Let eBay do all the marketing for you (and your competition)…
You can B. Let eBay affiliate marketers do your marketing (and your competition)…
Or,
You can C. Take the reigns into your own hands and do your own marketing.
What’s cool about Option C is that it is kind of an ‘all of the above’ sort of thing. Not only will you benefit from your own marketing efforts – you will continue to benefit from eBay and other affiliate marketers as well.
You must have a plan if you are going to be marketing your online business though… Before we get into how to develop a plan, I want to be very clear that marketing is not the same as advertising. Advertising can be a piece of your marketing plan; however, placing ads on various websites is not in itself a marketing plan.

One of the things I have talked about numerous times is the value of selling within a niche. When I’m talking about a niche – I’m talking about a group of products that the same audience has an interest for. The ‘tighter’ your niche is (or the more focused it is), the less competition you should have selling to that market.
So – for example…
Clothing or apparel is a niche… but a tighter, more focused niche would be women’s clothing or children’s clothing. You could sell just clothing in general – but, think about how much more you could cross-promote your items if you were only selling women’s, children’s OR men’s clothing.
If you know your customers are interested in women’s clothing – it is easy to create offers for them to purchase more from you. (And, remember, it is always easier to sell to those already showing an interest in buying from you!) On the other hand, if you are just selling clothing in general… you won’t know your customers as well and will have difficulty effectively promoting other products you are selling. In other words, if you cross promote to your other auctions and most of them are dresses – but, this particular customer is a man who has bought a jacket from you… it is likely your promotion won’t be all that effective.

Last year when I started this Auction Strategists Newsletter, I promised to only send our a newsletter when I had quality content to offer. If you are like me – you are bombarded from every direction with all kinds of INFORMATION… the last thing you need is just another thing to read.
At the same time, you have probably been looking for ways to grow your eBay business in this crazy economy… I have spent most of the last year analyzing different strategies that I’ve used and that many of my mentors have used to grow their business and I’m really looking forward to sharing with you what I have learned.
More than anything – I have noticed a gap in the helpful information that is available to you as an eBay seller… there are some great resources for learning how to sell better and increase your bids/sales/etc. But, what if you want more? Any business owner recognizes that putting all your eggs in one basket (ie., eBay) isn’t wise. What if you want to add baskets or various revenue streams? Again, there are some fabulous resources out there that teach how to grow an online business… but, who do you listen to? I’ve spent 6+ years learning about internet marketing. I’ve bought into some cheezy stuff in that time… and I’ve learned who to trust. I am more than happy to share these resources with you… and often have; however, I’ve noticed something… and this is where that gap is. Many eBay sellers are having a difficult time applying the strategies that ‘internet marketers’ are teaching to their eBay business. It is likely that you understand that adding a blog, for example, is a good idea for your business – you’ve probably heard that many times… but do you understand the why? And, if you do… do you understand how to apply a blog to your current eBay business so that it grows what you already have going instead of starting over?
New resource page for you
Many people have asked if I have a list of resources that I use (or have used) to grow my own online business. I do… and I finally put some of them onto a web page! At this point, I’m only sharing this page here on my blog – I don’t have any links to it from my other sites… I threw it together and would like to put a little more time into it before I let the whole world know about it
If you are looking for resources about blogging and internet marketing in general – check out my resource page here: www.jennihunt.com/resources
Enjoy! Oh – and if you see something missing that you are interested in learning more about… let me know… the resource page is a work in progress.

1. Thinking Ahead – Plans for 2009
=====================================
It’s November already… and before we get too into the Holiday Season, it is important to look ahead to the New Year. I know… I know… crazy – but, time flies and I guarantee if you take the time now to look ahead, it will be time well spent.
Some people like to get into great detail when they look ahead to the next year… I’m not one of those people. First of all, I just don’t have the time to plan every week out… but, more importantly, I have learned first hand, that things don’t always go as planned. Life happens… One of the beauties of working from home and having your own online business is that you are able to be flexible when life get’s in the way – besides… isn’t that why you have your own business? So life CAN get in the way?
The best piece you can add to your plan for 2009 is flexibility. Start with an umbrella or high level plan for the year — think of 4-5 ways you want to grow your business or business goals and write them down. You could include things such as:
- find more inventory resources for reselling
- implement a plan for building a mailing list
- learn how to set up my own blog
- find blogs that I will regularly visit and comment on to become a part of the community and help establish myself in that particular market
- write a report to give away as incentive to join my mailing list
- increase ebay revenue by 20%
- add 2 new revenue streams
I could go on – but, you get the idea.
