6 Ways To Reduce Stress For This Holiday Selling Season

The Holiday Selling Season on eBay is short… but sweet. The 2 months of hot selling items can be incredibly intense; however, if you plan it out – you’ll help ensure making it a success!
6 Ways To Enter The eBay Holiday Selling Season Stress-Free
1. Have A Plan
Whether you are the kind of person who needs a simple ‘big-picture’ look at things… or someone who must chart out every detail, I guarantee you a much simpler Holiday selling season if you go into it with a plan.
What should you include in your plan?
Here are a few questions to ask yourself that might help…
  • What are you going to sell?
  • When are these items usually listed for the highest profits?
  • How will I ensure a high sell-through rate?
  • What is my plan for items that don’t sell?
  • How many items a week can I sell on a weekly basis and still remain sane?
  • What is my shipping strategy?
2. Know What You Are Going To Sell
It is important to be open as the season progresses to new hot selling items… however, starting out the season with a focused ‘niche’ will help. If you are selling toys (and I highly recommend it this time of year), consider selling toys that you can cross-promote to the same customer. Remember, it is much easier to sell to a previous customer than to make a sale to someone new.
What does this look like?  Here are a few examples…
  • If you are selling baby dolls, consider also selling clothing and accessories for the doll.
  • If you are selling Zhu Zhu pets, consider also selling accessories – or Kung Zhu pets.
You don’t have to limit yourself to all things Zhu Zhu, but, you might as well take advantage of the opportunity to sell to the same customer over and over by offering other products that they might also be interested in.
3. Limit Your Number of Auctions
Perhaps a better way to word this is to KNOW your limit… if you can’t manage and ship 500 auctions, then you might need to scale back how many listings you have going at one time. One of the strategies that I recommend in my Magic Window of Opportunity eCourse is to list a few items every day of the week. There are many benefits to this strategy – not only will you increase your listings exposure, but you will also be able to manage your time better.
4. Keep Your Receipts In A Safe Place!
If you are reselling new items (ie., toys)… make sure you keep those receipts and know the return policy for the stores.
5. Move Out The Inventory That Doesn’t Move
We all want a high sell-through rate; however, sometimes we are left with inventory that just won’t move. Often you can return new items from the retailer you purchased them from; however, if you are selling used  items, research consignment shops that you can send your inventory that doesn’t move to. In fact, I have been known to make a nice little profit on consigning used children’s items that I’ve picked up at yard sales for a fraction of what they consign for!… Even though I wouldn’t have made as much if I had sold it on eBay – not having to deal with packing and shipping the item can make it worth it ;-)
6. Don’t Forget About What Really Matters
It is very easy to get so involved in selling during this season, that we forget what is truly important to us. Don’t forget to take time for yourself (ie., sleep… eat ;-) And spend time with your family and friends too! No matter how organized you are, spending an evening here and there with those you care about can help you get through this crazy selling season and keep you sane!
7. Well, I said 6 Ways to help remain stress-free this holiday selling season… but, here is a bonus ;-)
If you are selling toys, be sure to get the Holiday Toy Guide THIS week! ;-)
Okay, I should really name #7… “Have Someone Do Your Research For You” because that is really what the Holiday Toy Guide is all about – us researching the list of toys that is expected to be the most popular and comparing the retail pricind and availability to eBay for YOU. This is the ONLY way to know what is really selling… Anyone can make predictions – but, only researching on eBay will put you in the know.
You can do the research yourself… there are lots of tools available to you to do so; however, I guarantee you will spend HOURS scouring through the data.
If you are selling toys this holiday season, check out the Holiday Toy Guide:
The weekly reports listing over 50 toys that are expected to be the most popular start THIS WEEK! To get the full value, now is the time to get in on the GOLD Membership.
Enjoy…

is that REGARDLESS, parents… grandparents… aunts… uncles… they all buy toys for the children in their lives during the holidays.

They will go without – just so they can shop for the toys their kids MUST have.

This is why I wasn’t too surprised that the Holiday Toy Guide had such a great response last year!

The economy was shaky… but, many sellers who knew what to sell did quite well with toys on eBay.

Anyhow – as much as I really want to hang onto summer… I have been getting ready for the big holiday selling season. Can you believe we are only 11 weeks from the big Black Friday shopping weekend?

Okay – I won’t continue to shock you with the dates… but, whether or not you are ready, it is coming. And, I’m hoping to spend time over the next few weeks helping YOU get ready.

A few topics we are going to be covering…

  • Toy Trends for the 2010 Holidays

I’ll give you another week or so to let your mind shift from back to school or customes to toys for the holidays… ;-)

Costumes Are On The Rise – Are You Ready?

Costumes Are On The Rise! Do you know what’s selling?

Sherah Taylor has asked me to team up with her this year on her eBook, Secrets of Hot Selling Halloween Costumes. I jumped at the idea – because when she first released the program, I was incredibly jealous that I didn’t come up with the idea first ;-) Well, now I get to be a part of it!

Sherah was the publisher for Auction-Moms for years and she is well known for selling a USED Disney Boo costume a couple years ago for over $120. Just last year, she picked up another and sold it for around $100! And, I think I heard that she has already found one for $10 to sell this year.

Well, Sherah spills the beans on how she works her magic with costume auctions – if you sell costumes (or even if you don’t – but want to), this is a MUST HAVE! In fact, this is a great market to get into because the turn around on inventory is so quick. One of the great things about selling costumes is that you can buy them from thrift shops and consignment stores – and list them right away!… Instant profits!

All you have to know is which costumes sell the best… and Sherah lists over 250 USED costumes that sell for $20-80+ on eBay this time of year in her eBook.

Plus, not only do you get the eBook – but, we have partnered up to provide a 2 month subscription to HuntedTreasure. HuntedTreasure gives you a weekly report listing 25 used children’s items that are currently selling well on eBay – and one of the categories we are researching for you is costumes! So for the next 2 months, you will also receive a list of costumes and other children’s items that are selling well RIGHT NOW on eBay.

Building Your Inventory Without Spending a Penny!
=====================================

Many people use the slow selling season during the summer to shop and build their inventory. This really is a great time to do so… especially if you are selling used items. Yard sales are in full swing and you can get plenty of incredible merchandise for pennies on the dollar by shopping them.

What if I told you that you could get inventory without spending a cent though?

Seriously??

Yep! I have done it! Here is my secret… TRADE. You can actually trade your used clothing or items (that is in decent condition) for trade credit at many consignment stores… allowing you to trade your old items for ‘new’ ones that you know will bring in an ebay profit.

Here are some easy to follow steps to trade successfully:

A few years back a friend of mine who runs a membership site for eBay sellers was telling me how excited she was to get her listings up. It’s always fun to have a new wave of items up on eBay… That refresh button can be a little addictive when a listing is coming to an end and a bidding war has started! But, my friend wasn’t interested in her items selling…

what?!

You heard me right!
She could care less if her items actually sold!

Why?
Because her PURPOSE to listing wasn’t to sell the item she had listed. Her PURPOSE was to get the people looking at her listings to join her mailing list! Her PUROSE was to drive traffic to her site and gain new members… and this plan worked! Whenever she was listing items on eBay, her mailing list grew… and so did her membership site numbers!

Wouldn’t it be nice to take the pressure off of having to make money on your listings and look at them as an advertising or marketing opportunity instead?

Calendar of Bargains for new inventory

Calendar of coupons/bargains/sales
=====================================
=====================================

One of the websites I frequent sent out an interesting email earlier this year. Buxr has been watching the trends for how stores and manufacturers run their sales. This calendar of savings they put together allows you to get a glimpse of what can be expected to be promoted by stores and what you might find as far as sales, coupons and rebates… If you are reselling new retail items, this is valuable information.

I put together a summary from the list… I just included items below from the list that tend to be sold on eBay. You will want to look at the whole article  HERE.

Trends for savings
——————-
January: furniture, carpet, exercise stuff, grills, TV’s

February: tires, tools, humidifiers

March: luggage, boots, coats/winter wear

April: car accessories, fabric, vacuum cleaners and lawn mowers

May: Patio furniture, water, party supplies, camping gear, mattresses

June: hand tools

July: early markdowns for patio furniture, outgoing theater shows on Broadway sell tickets for 50% off

August: further patio furniture mark-downs, outdoor toy sales (30-75% off), swimwear, backpacks, school/office supplies

September: bikes, digital cameras, gas grills, wines

October: large appliances, winter coats, jeans

November: left over Halloween items

December: computers, loads of bundles with electronics, wedding dresses, baby products, toys, GPS

Enjoy!
Jenni

PS. I am so embarrassed that I haven’t posted since **gasp** December! That’s what happens when I focus on the back end stuff of running a business – there is really only so many hours in a day. Not to mention… continued physical therapy and doctor visits… hoping to have all that behind me soon….
