2. Residual and Automatic Income – Part 1
—————————-
I wonder if any of you are like me…
I have this curse where my mind just doesn’t seem to take a break. I’m always coming up with new ideas – and often it keeps me up at night…
I’m an idea person to the CORE.
Membership sites have been on my mind lately as I have been writing a step-by-step course that helps beginners build their very own… and, as I’ve been writing the course, I have just been blown away by how much potential there is for ANYONE to build an automated revenue stream from these kinds of sites.
As an online business owner, having a membership site should be at the top of your business ‘to-do’ list for a variety of reasons.
Why?
One of the biggest reasons…
A membership site gives you the SECURITY of a monthly income.
Think about it. Which is easier…
A. Finding 12 customers to buy ONE product, or
B. Finding 1 customer to make TWELVE automatic purchases?
There is no question about it… it is easier to find that ONE
customer than TWELVE.
And that is the beauty of a membership site… your customer
automatically spends money with you month after month to keep up
their membership!
It’s RESIDUAL income and it provides the ultimate security for
internet business owners (even eBayers!!). You know it is coming in
every single month… those rebills are your security blanket…
it’s revenue you can count on like clockwork.
You might be wondering, “What in the world does this have to do with selling on eBay?”
Well, here is the thing. If you are serious about building an online business, then you are probably aware that your reselling arsenol must be bigger than eBay… online success doesn’t come from putting all your eggs in one basket! Nope – it is important to have multiple revenue streams… and what is super cool is that you can create multiple revenue streams from the same audience!
For years I have been talking about the importance of building relationship with your customers… We have talked about how much easier it is to sell to an existing or previous customer than to find a new one.
Up until recently, setting up your own membership site has been a
bit of a challenge. Complicated and pricey ‘scripts’ to buy and
install that make membership sites work can be a huge pain… plus,
it can be a challenge to have the pressure to create consistent
content.
However… That has all changed!!
I’ve put together a 5 part series that shares some of the gold-nuggets in this new Start Here Membership course I’ve been developing. If you are interested in learning more about what a membership site looks like and how it can be a revenue generating tool for your online business, then you’ll want to follow along.

6 Ways To Reduce Stress For This Holiday Selling Season

The Holiday Selling Season on eBay is short… but sweet. The 2 months of hot selling items can be incredibly intense; however, if you plan it out – you’ll help ensure making it a success!
6 Ways To Enter The eBay Holiday Selling Season Stress-Free
1. Have A Plan
Whether you are the kind of person who needs a simple ‘big-picture’ look at things… or someone who must chart out every detail, I guarantee you a much simpler Holiday selling season if you go into it with a plan.
What should you include in your plan?
Here are a few questions to ask yourself that might help…
  • What are you going to sell?
  • When are these items usually listed for the highest profits?
  • How will I ensure a high sell-through rate?
  • What is my plan for items that don’t sell?
  • How many items a week can I sell on a weekly basis and still remain sane?
  • What is my shipping strategy?
2. Know What You Are Going To Sell
It is important to be open as the season progresses to new hot selling items… however, starting out the season with a focused ‘niche’ will help. If you are selling toys (and I highly recommend it this time of year), consider selling toys that you can cross-promote to the same customer. Remember, it is much easier to sell to a previous customer than to make a sale to someone new.
What does this look like?  Here are a few examples…
  • If you are selling baby dolls, consider also selling clothing and accessories for the doll.
  • If you are selling Zhu Zhu pets, consider also selling accessories – or Kung Zhu pets.
You don’t have to limit yourself to all things Zhu Zhu, but, you might as well take advantage of the opportunity to sell to the same customer over and over by offering other products that they might also be interested in.
3. Limit Your Number of Auctions
Perhaps a better way to word this is to KNOW your limit… if you can’t manage and ship 500 auctions, then you might need to scale back how many listings you have going at one time. One of the strategies that I recommend in my Magic Window of Opportunity eCourse is to list a few items every day of the week. There are many benefits to this strategy – not only will you increase your listings exposure, but you will also be able to manage your time better.
4. Keep Your Receipts In A Safe Place!
If you are reselling new items (ie., toys)… make sure you keep those receipts and know the return policy for the stores.
5. Move Out The Inventory That Doesn’t Move
We all want a high sell-through rate; however, sometimes we are left with inventory that just won’t move. Often you can return new items from the retailer you purchased them from; however, if you are selling used  items, research consignment shops that you can send your inventory that doesn’t move to. In fact, I have been known to make a nice little profit on consigning used children’s items that I’ve picked up at yard sales for a fraction of what they consign for!… Even though I wouldn’t have made as much if I had sold it on eBay – not having to deal with packing and shipping the item can make it worth it ;-)
6. Don’t Forget About What Really Matters
It is very easy to get so involved in selling during this season, that we forget what is truly important to us. Don’t forget to take time for yourself (ie., sleep… eat ;-) And spend time with your family and friends too! No matter how organized you are, spending an evening here and there with those you care about can help you get through this crazy selling season and keep you sane!
7. Well, I said 6 Ways to help remain stress-free this holiday selling season… but, here is a bonus ;-)
If you are selling toys, be sure to get the Holiday Toy Guide THIS week! ;-)
Okay, I should really name #7… “Have Someone Do Your Research For You” because that is really what the Holiday Toy Guide is all about – us researching the list of toys that is expected to be the most popular and comparing the retail pricind and availability to eBay for YOU. This is the ONLY way to know what is really selling… Anyone can make predictions – but, only researching on eBay will put you in the know.
You can do the research yourself… there are lots of tools available to you to do so; however, I guarantee you will spend HOURS scouring through the data.
If you are selling toys this holiday season, check out the Holiday Toy Guide:
The weekly reports listing over 50 toys that are expected to be the most popular start THIS WEEK! To get the full value, now is the time to get in on the GOLD Membership.
Enjoy…

Costumes Are On The Rise – Are You Ready?

Costumes Are On The Rise! Do you know what’s selling?

Sherah Taylor has asked me to team up with her this year on her eBook, Secrets of Hot Selling Halloween Costumes. I jumped at the idea – because when she first released the program, I was incredibly jealous that I didn’t come up with the idea first ;-) Well, now I get to be a part of it!

Sherah was the publisher for Auction-Moms for years and she is well known for selling a USED Disney Boo costume a couple years ago for over $120. Just last year, she picked up another and sold it for around $100! And, I think I heard that she has already found one for $10 to sell this year.

Well, Sherah spills the beans on how she works her magic with costume auctions – if you sell costumes (or even if you don’t – but want to), this is a MUST HAVE! In fact, this is a great market to get into because the turn around on inventory is so quick. One of the great things about selling costumes is that you can buy them from thrift shops and consignment stores – and list them right away!… Instant profits!

All you have to know is which costumes sell the best… and Sherah lists over 250 USED costumes that sell for $20-80+ on eBay this time of year in her eBook.

Plus, not only do you get the eBook – but, we have partnered up to provide a 2 month subscription to HuntedTreasure. Building Your Inventory Without Spending a Penny!
=====================================

Many people use the slow selling season during the summer to shop and build their inventory. This really is a great time to do so… especially if you are selling used items. Yard sales are in full swing and you can get plenty of incredible merchandise for pennies on the dollar by shopping them.

What if I told you that you could get inventory without spending a cent though?

Seriously??

Yep! I have done it! Here is my secret… TRADE. You can actually trade your used clothing or items (that is in decent condition) for trade credit at many consignment stores… allowing you to trade your old items for ‘new’ ones that you know will bring in an ebay profit.

Here are some easy to follow steps to trade successfully:

Garage Sale For Inventory Plan – YOUR BUDGET
=====================================

Last week I shared with you some of the strategies I use to map out my route on a g-sale day… and today we talk about the all important budget!

Your budget will really come down to the market you are in (and of course how much you have to spend on inventory). Since I focus on selling children’s items, that is going to be the point of reference for this weeks topic of budgeting for yard sales.

20 USED costumes that sold for OVER $100 in 2008

You might be asking why in the world I would be sharing with you a list of used costumes that sold for over $100 LAST year… But, I think it is valuable information if you are thinking about selling used costumes this year.

First of all – the thing about USED items… they hold their value. Many of these same costumes and accessories that sold for over $100 last year are going to be hot sellers this year. They are worth looking into because you can pick up used costumes for $5-10 easy.

Secondly, I want you to see how you can get more lists like this one… only for 2009! ;-)

I’ve been following retail trends… and if you have are selling on eBay, you probably do to. One of the things I pay special attention to is the seasons… You have probably noticed that stores are starting to replace the back to school supply shelves with costumes already. Halloween sales should peak at the end of this month when we move right into the Christmas holiday season. This means there is still plenty of time to make a great profit selling costumes on eBay. In fact, even after the Halloween sales reach their peak in retail stores – some will be going strong through October. To take advantage of this as an eBay seller there are two key factors to be aware of:

Key #1: You need to know which costumes will be the most popular – this way, when the stores are all out of them, you can offer your inventory at a profit ;-)

Great Profits From Selling USED Halloween Costumes

I’m getting ready to head into shoulder surgery in less than 24 hours – but, have been working hard to get some goodies lined up for you.

Used costumes are just starting to pop up on eBay for Halloween. In fact, I have a list of 5 that were selling well just last week! But, before we get to that, I want to tell you about what I was working on today for you…

Just TODAY I was able to work out a deal to get you one of the best resources for selling costumes on eBay. Most people have to wait until September 1st to get Secrets of Hot Selling Halloween Costumes – but, you can get it early AND at a great discount!

If you are waiting for the Holidays to make some mula with toys… pay attention! USED costumes are great sellers on eBay that lead right into the holiday toy selling season.

For only 20 bucks you not only get this fantastic eBook full of tips and strategies for picking out hot selling costumes, but, you will also get a weekly report listing the top 20 selling USED costumes on eBay all the way through the end of October!

Sherah KNOWS costumes – she has made loads selling them herself. Every year I hear how she picked up a USED Disney BOO costume for around 10 bucks… and easily turns it around for a huge profit of over $100. It’s a short selling season, but a crazy good one!

Anyhow, Sherah spills the beans on how she works her magic with costume auctions – if you sell costumes (or even if you don’t – but want to), this is a MUST have!

Secrets To Garage Sale Bargains – How The Pro’s Get The Inside Deals

I just found out that Sherah over at Auction-Moms.com is offering her garage sale ebook for $10 again for a week!

Secrets of Garage Sale Bargains – Learn How The Pro’s Get The Inside Deals is reg. $17.99 – but through August 5, you can grab it for 10 bucks.

Garage sales are by far the best place to shop for inventory with the best return… and the best thing about garage sales is that everyone has an equal chance.

Here is what Sherah covers in her book:
- Which weekend is the best to catch hot moving sales
- Tips for getting a good deal even if your best offer is refused
- Why saying, “Will you take $1 for this toy?” is a no-no.
- Find out the magic words to seal the deal… almost every time!
- When the best time is to hit the sales for the best deals

I am super excited about this because her book is jam packed with great info for using garage sales for eBay inventory. PLUS, she has a guarantee – If the tips don’t work for you, like they have for her (and me!), just let her know and she’ll give your money back.

One of the things I have talked about numerous times is the value of selling within a niche. When I’m talking about a niche – I’m talking about a group of products that the same audience has an interest for. The ‘tighter’ your niche is (or the more focused it is), the less competition you should have selling to that market.

So – for example…

Clothing or apparel is a niche… but a tighter, more focused niche would be women’s clothing or children’s clothing. You could sell just clothing in general – but, think about how much more you could cross-promote your items if you were only selling women’s, children’s OR men’s clothing.

If you know your customers are interested in women’s clothing – it is easy to create offers for them to purchase more from you. (And, remember, it is always easier to sell to those already showing an interest in buying from you!) On the other hand, if you are just selling clothing in general… you won’t know your customers as well and will have difficulty effectively promoting other products you are selling. In other words, if you cross promote to your other auctions and most of them are dresses – but, this particular customer is a man who has bought a jacket from you… it is likely your promotion won’t be all that effective.

Hi ~

When I start talking about garage sales I always get a variety of responses. I’m surprised that many don’t really understand how many true treasures (and I’m not talking about junky “treasures”) can be found. Usually those in the market for children’s items aren’t quite as picky about buying used… But, some have a hard time with the idea of buying second hand. I can understand that; however, I believe that in this economy, some of those ideals are changing.

As the going gets tough, more people are turning to buying second hand so they can save and continue to enjoy some of the other things they appreciate about their lifestyle still. This is really good news for eBay sellers because it means that more people are turning to places where they can get things used – and eBay is one of the top hit websites/resources available!

So, whether you have always looked for used items… or are just starting out – the Garage Sale Plan series we are doing is designed to give you a strategy to get your hands on quality inventory in a time efficient manner… and with the least amount of money.

As always, if you have a question… comment… tip… whatever, please share!

GoodWill Hunting – Finding Inventory for Resell at Thrift Stores

A while back I was working on an article about buying inventory from thrift shops. Thrift shops are one of my favorite places to find used inventory – and I have a system that works really well… as I was writing the article, I came across this article by Melissa Smith – she shares all of the strategies I already use when I go to thrift shops (I especially love shopping with my mom to get a senior discount – saving an extra 40% on everything!!)… so, rather than recreate the wheel – I asked Melissa if I could share her article. Here you go…

I’m Melissa Smith, a SAHM (Stay At Home Mom) to my 2-year-old daughter, and wife to my husband Tim. I’ve been eBaying since 1998 and selling kid’s clothes for a year. I sell mostly children’s clothes under the ID “melisskbs” and I get 99% of my inventory from Goodwill’s thrift stores. You can see my auctions for yourself here:

I used to work for Goodwill Industries in the Job Placement Division, and I am one of their most frequent customers! I’ve sold Baby Lulu, Hanna Andersson, Oilily, Kelly’s Kids, Orient Expressed, Lilly Pulitzer, and untold numbers of Gymboree, all purchased from the GW. Even as a kid, I loved hunting for bargains at the thrift stores.

Here’s how you can find great “treasures” and inventory for your auctions at thrift stores such as Goodwill, Salvation Army, and other charity thrift stores.

Let’s Get Started!

First, go often and find out when new merchandise arrives. At my local GW, a truck comes every day from the main donation center warehouse. Also, the stock is rotated every day among the 16 stores in the district so there is always something new to find.
