2. Why Do I Need An Information Product Anyway?

As an eBay seller, you might be asking me – why in the world do I need an information product like an eBook?
Well, I’ll be honest, if all you are doing is selling items on eBay – you don’t.
In fact, if you aren’t interested in growing your online business outside of simply selling items on eBay – then, this particular article isn’t really going to mean much to you.
But…
If you have been following me for any length of time, you know that I strongly believe that in order to grow your eBay business it is essential that you include various ‘internet marketing’ strategies (instead of just relying on eBay to do it all for you).
Not only will this give you freedom from eBay to manage your revenue… but, you will find that as you get these strategies in place, you will be spending LESS time on your business.
Make More… and spend Less Time doing it! Yeah!!
It’s takes a lot of time to sell on eBay… looking for inventory, photographing items, listing auctions, packaging and customer service!
I have found that setting up things for my eBay business like a blog, a mailing list, etc… has allowed me to make more – and most of it is through automated revenue streams!
In other words, I set it up once… and it keeps selling for me over and over again.
Okay – but, what does this have to do with creating an information product (eBook, short report, video, audio, etc.)?
It really comes down to serving your customers (or future customers).
Here are 3 reasons why an information product like and eBook can benefit you as an eBay seller:
1. It’s a TRUST builder: We live in an age where people want information… and they want it NOW. Providing information to your customers that is relevant to their interests is a great way to build trust with them – and TRUST between you and your customer is one of the best ways to gain REPEAT business!
No matter what you are selling on eBay, there is likely an information product to create on a related topic that will build that trust.
For example…
Let’s say you are selling pet items on eBay.
You can build trust with your potential customers by giving them a short report or eBook about how to better care for their pet.
By offering this valuable information, they get to know you and will be more likely to buy from you in the future.
2. It’s a MAILING LIST builder: If you are trying to build a mailing list you will find that offering an incentive (such as an eBook) for them to join your list is important. Many people are very cautious with leaving their email addresses… but, if you offer something of value in exchange, you both benefit!
3. AUTOMATED REVENUE builder: Even if you are giving away your information product, you can generate automated revenue with it! Let’s go back to the pet care eBook example. You could fill the eBook with tips for diet, first aid, exercise, etc… and with each tip, you can include a recommendation for a product that is related. Even if you just point to products that are sold on Amazon.com in your ebook, you can use an affiliate link and earn a percentage of every sale. Also, keep in mind, that as a trust builder, you are creating FUTURE revenue. 🙂
Creating information products are one of the easiest things an online business owner can do to grow their business… it really does come down to the kind of relationship you are building with your customers (or potential customers). You really can’t go wrong when you are providing solid, quality content that they can use…
