2. Becoming A Successful eBook Author: The K.E.Y.
=====================================

Writing an eBook or information product that is related to the products you are selling on eBay is one of the best things you can do for your business. Now, I’m not talking about writing it to sell… but, rather, writing it to give away! Here are 3 K.E.Y. ways to make your ebook a success…

There has to be a reason why some eBook authors are successful and others are not.

In other words, how come some writers are making high six-figure incomes and others are barely making enough to cover their hosting fees?

What is the difference for the level of success?

There are actually 3 reasons why that I want to share with you so that you can share in the success of authoring an eBook.

I’ve used the acronym K.E.Y. to help you remember these three elements of successful eBook publishing.

1. K = Keep it focused

One of the biggest mistakes eBook authors make is starting with the idea in mind that their eBook has to be a certain length. They think that 100 pages is better than 50… nothing could be further from the truth!

QUALITY is much more important and valuable to your readers than QUANTITY! Almost every potential customer in your market or niche is more interested in learning something useful than they are about reading a bunch of fluff!

The ability to concisely share your information that is practical is a must if you want to be successful in providing information products like eBooks. No fluff. No filler. No fat. Just the meat of what you want to convey.

That’s what consumers want – wouldn’t you agree as a consumer yourself?

Chances are you are more likely to write a 28 page report and get it done than you are to work hard over trying to put out a 200+ page masterpiece!

Your first KEY to success in authoring an eBook is to ‘Keep it focused’. Share what you need to share in the least amount of pages possible.

2. E = ENJOY yourself

If you are passionate about what you are doing in your business – it will definitely come through to your readers. You are more likely to complete your eBook than those who write reluctantly or grudgingly.

Please don’t underestimate what I’m saying here. Not only will you get much more done as a writer, your readers will thank you!

This really is the beauty of information publishing. You get to pick the topic and you should be picking one that is of interest to you… something you find enjoyable, something you are passionate about.

Of course, you also want to choose topics that are in demand and have an audience ready to read what you have to share… but, at the same time, you can look for those marketable topics that appeal to your interests and expertise.

Seriously, I don’t care how profitable a subject may be, if you don’t find the topic enjoyable you will burn out real quick writing about it.

Look for those things that are you are already talking about… things that are related to what you are selling on eBay (hopefully you find enjoyment in what you are selling).

3. Y = YIELD results

Finally, you want your eBook to get results… and this means that you must finish the job you started in writing and publishing it.

I cannot tell you how many people who are often short of the finish line… simply because they didn’t keep on going. The begin running the race with gusto… they outline their eBook, the come up with ideas to include in their work like they were sprinting down the track.

But… when they round the first corner, they start to slow down… and before you know it they are sitting on the sidelines watching others finish.

This is why you should plan to finish your first eBook within 30 days.

With any new information product or eBook you are planning on writing – choose the topic and outline it in such a way that you can complete the content within one calendar month. Anything that goes beyond that period of time is most likely going to burn you out… and get discarded somewhere past the starting gate but before the all important finish line.

To help you reach this goal, keep in mind that your eBook doesn’t have to be super long! Remember the ‘K’ above? Don’t get caught thinking your eBook has to be 100 or 200 pages long! A 30 page report can do very well – as long as the information provided is VALUABLE. And, 30 pages is a very reasonable goal for the amount of pages for your eBook. That is writing just ONE page per day for 30 days – then it is completed!

VICTORY! The finish line!

Obviously there are a wide variety of other ‘keys’ to being successful as an eBook writer (choosing the right topic, learning to outline well, brainstorming for ideas, marketing your eBook) but these three form a solid foundation for you to build upon as you continue to learn more about information publishing.

K = KEEP it focused
E = ENJOY yourself
Y = YIELD results
