Back To The Basics…

Do you have an About Me page? I sure hope so…

I’ve been spending a lot of time on eBay poking around, researching trends and I am always suprised at the number of sellers (even power sellers) that do not have an About Me page! And, most of those that do – aren’t using it to it’s full potential… talk about leaving money on the table.

If you DON’T have an About Me page, you need to pay attention.

If you DO, you need to pay attention. 😉

Your About Me page on eBay is one of your biggest eBay assets when it comes to creating multiple revenue streams. It is one of the KEYS to USING eBay to grow your business instead of eBay using you).

You can use your About Me page to connect with your buyers so that they not only continue to buy from you on eBay… but, they also buy from you outside of eBay.

We’ll talk about this more in upcoming weeks – but, here is the basic process of how having an About Me page can work for you as a marketing tool.

1. At the top of every listing you have on eBay you can link to your About Me page… but, be sure to give your visitors a reason to click. In other words, don’t just say, “Visit My About Me Page” or “Learn More About Me”. Make it about your visitor!

2. Once they get to your About Me page – make it all about your visitor. Sure, they might want to know more about you as a seller – but, give something that is of value to them. Create a free report that you can give away to them that they will find valuable (you don’t even have to write it yourself!). If they feel like you are giving them something they can use, they are more likely to buy from you.

3. If you offer them a free report or something that is of value to them, you have an opportunity to get their email address and stay in touch with them. This is very important because it allows you to build a relationship with your visitor… and build a mailing list.

4. You must have a webpage set up where they can sign up for the free report and then link to that webpage from your About Me page. You can’t have the form for them to sign up right on your About Me page.

In the mean time, if you don’t have a website or another online presence to send your About Me visitors to and are ready to do that – I’d like to suggest setting up a blog as your website. Blogs are incredibly easy to set up and are a great marketing tool to build a relationship with your eBay visitors, potential bidders, and customers.

There are plenty of resources out there to teach you how to set up a blog. You can even go through the tutorials on the WordPress site.

No matter how you do it… Be sure to use your About Me page to its fullest potential. It is one of the only tools eBay gives you that allows you to take advantage of the traffic eBay brings in.
