Read on for more information... and also why you need a blog to grow your eBay business...]
Okay…
So, as an eBay seller, you might be a little confused about why blogging is an important marketing tool and resource for huge business growth… well, the confusion stops here! All you need to understand is that blogging is a very powerful tool you can use to grow your online business – and your eBay business is an online business.
Benefits of Blogging for eBay Sellers:
1. Search engines love blogs! Because the information on a blog is being updated regularly with new ‘posts’, search engines like Google and Bing tend to rank blogs higher in search results. This means that customers looking for your information will be able to find you easier when searching the internet.
2. Blogging allows you to build a relationship with your customers and potential customers
3. Easily create multiple revenue streams with a blog.
If you have been selling for long on eBay – you probably know that it isn’t what it use to be. Sure, there is plenty of opportunity – in fact, we are seeling lots of people do very well this holiday season selling toys! But, eBay is known for nickel and diming you to death… and raising their fees… In some ways if your only revenue stream is from selling on eBay – you might even feel like you work FOR eBay instead of for yourself! The good news is that there is plenty of money on the table available through various revenue streams that are RELATED to what you are already doing on eBay. Adding a blog to your business strategy is a very simple way to add additional revenue streams and free you from being so dependent on eBay.
4. Adding a blog can give you a long term plan for becoming less and less dependent on eBay
Really… I could go on and on…
The point is – blogging works! It helps generate revenue by driving traffic to your auctions, by creating additional revenue streams, by helping you build relationship with your customers… It is a wonderful, easy solution for taking your eBay business up a level.
What it really boils down to is HOW do you get a blog?
That is where the Start Here Program comes in.
Over a year ago I developed this training program that is jam packed with content to walk you through every single step of building a blog and growing it for revenue. The course is 6 months long – BUT, you will have your blog up and running within the first 3 weeks.
You can learn more about the blogging course here:
BUT DON’T SIGN UP JUST YET OR YOU WILL BE PAYING TOO MUCH!

At the beginning of this note I mentioned a Cyber-Monday deal!
The Start Here Program is a series of courses designed to help you implement what many perceive as confusing and complicated marketing strategies to your eBay business.
There are 2 more courses to date available in the program.
1. Start Here Blogging Course – 6 month course reg. $17/month for 6 months
2. Start Here List Building Course – 5 week course reg. $27
If you aren’t building a mailing list of customers and potential customers you are leaving money on the table… and a lot of it! this 5 week course walks you through step-by-step on how to build your mailing list to take your eBay business to MUCH larger growth!
3. Start Here Program: 10 Days To An eBook reg. $27
How to write and publish an information product in 10 days.
Separately these training courses would cost $156!

HOWEVER – from NOW until December 1st you can get the Start Here Blogging Course, the Start Here List Building Course and the 10 Days To An eBook Course for $97!

In other words, it’s like saving $5 on the blogging course and getting the other 2 courses for FREE!

PS. I have heard nothing but positive things about the Start Here Program… here are what a few of my students have said to me about it…
Pam said:
“As a not-too-new-but-new-enough-to-get-confused-easily-newbie (whew) your course is exactly the information I am needing. It’s an easy read, not over-hyped, you don’t assume I already know what you are talking about, and because it comes in small lessons, it builds anticipation for the next one! You obviously know what you’re writing because it is working! I gain confidence in myself each time I complete a lesson and can move on to the next.”
Deena had this to say:
“I like that the lessons, especially the early ones, were clear and broken down step-by-step, and the flow into more complicated processes was gradual and well organized.  Jenni, you have been terrific and very patient with my questions and your personalized help is greatly appreciated.  I also like the fact that I can work at my own pace, and if I get too busy to do the lesson when it comes, I can do it whenever I want to.  I also like the emphasis on passive income and as an eBay seller, I appreciate the advice pertaining to eBay.”
Billie shared:
“I think overall you have taken a dificult subject and taught us how to make a blog that will be very productive for us.”
Michele said:
“My overall impression is positive. I like the way the class is structured, with new material arriving on a regular basis, giving me the opportunity to take it step by step. I am very new at this, and your course is giving me the kind of information I need to progress with my online business(es).”
Remember – you get ALL 3 courses for less than the cost of the blogging course alone!

Why eBay’s Mailing List Feature Isn’t A Good Idea

eBay’s Mailing List Feature – Not so good
=========================================

One question I get frequently as I talk about the importance of building a mailing list is:

Why can’t I use eBay’s mailing list feature?

If you didn’t know, eBay has a feature that allows store owners to manage a mailing list so you can publish a newsletter. I say ‘manage’ loosely – because if you look closely, there are some limitations that eBay puts on your newsletter that makes eBay more likely your list manager than you… are you surprised?

Before we dig too deep… let’s look at the value of having a mailing list:

1. Trust Builder: A mailing list is a tool you can use to build a relationship with your readers/audience/market. If you have a relationship with your readers and have built their trust, they are more likely to buy from you.

2. Takes Pressure Off of Selling Auctions: If your goal is to build a mailing list then you aren’t as concerned about your auctions selling. Instead, you begin to recognize that your auctions are really just a way for people to join your mailing list. Your listings become more of an advertisement than the single source of revenue for your business.

A few years back a friend of mine who runs a membership site for eBay sellers was telling me how excited she was to get her listings up. It’s always fun to have a new wave of items up on eBay… That refresh button can be a little addictive when a listing is coming to an end and a bidding war has started! But, my friend wasn’t interested in her items selling…

what?!

You heard me right!
She could care less if her items actually sold!

Why?
Because her PURPOSE to listing wasn’t to sell the item she had listed. Her PURPOSE was to get the people looking at her listings to join her mailing list! Her PUROSE was to drive traffic to her site and gain new members… and this plan worked! Whenever she was listing items on eBay, her mailing list grew… and so did her membership site numbers!

Wouldn’t it be nice to take the pressure off of having to make money on your listings and look at them as an advertising or marketing opportunity instead?

An Excellent Question You Should Be Asking About Your eBay Business

Thanks for the kind words about the report I sent you yesterday. You’re Welcome!
As I have learned different internet marketing strategies over the years, I always come back to how they can relate to eBay sellers. List Building is no different.

In fact, some of you are asking the same question…

“As an eBay seller, WHY should I pay attention to something like building a mailing list?

Your mailing list is a very powerful tool that helps build relationship with not just your customers… but those that just visit your listings and never bid!

Your goal quickly shifts from just selling a product… to getting eBay visitors to join your mailing list. Why?

So you have an opportunity to build relationship with them. People are much more likely to buy from someone they trust.

When your goal, then, is to get them to join your mailing list… and you learn the skill of selling to that list – suddenly whether or not your listings sell on eBay isn’t so important anymore. You are more concerned with harnessing the traffic from your auctions.

Look at it this way…
Let’s say you have an item listed on eBay and you are thinking you’ll get $40 profit once it sells.

Scenario #1:
In the first scenario, you don’t have a mailing list or a blog. You are solely listing items on eBay for your business.
You are happy to have made an easy 40 bucks… and hope the buyer considers your items for future purchases.

Scenario #2:
In this scenario, you have a mailing list… and you have a system in place to drive those visiting your auctions to a webpage that gives them an incentive to join your list.

Why You Need A Mailing List…

I have been hearing a lot about list building lately… have you?
I put together this short report that talks about why you need a mailing list to grow your ebay or online business.

Look at what Deena had to say about the Start Here Blogging program for eBayers:

“Hi, Jenni,

Thank you!

I just wanted to tell you what an AWESOME job you’re doing with the Blog lesson system.

I’m about to start Lesson 9, and I just can’t believe all the information, step-by-step instructions, knowledge, and advice you are providing.

I would have had to read a zillion books and web sites to learn about it, and still never be able to narrow it down and get it done. Just poking around other web sites leads to mass confusion and eventual inaction.

I’m looking forward to the next lessons…

Thanks again for a great program – I know you put a tremendous amount of work into it, and I hope it brings you wealth and fame!”

If you run any kind of business… whether you like it or not, you are somehow involved in marketing. In fact, even if you don’t realize it, you are marketing your business. It happens whether you have a ‘formal’ plan or not… It happens when you tell other people what you do – either by word of mouth, through email, flyers on bulletin boards… or however else you communicate your business services/products to potential customers.

Here is the thing…
As an eBay seller, you have a choice.

You can A. Let eBay do all the marketing for you (and your competition)…
You can B. Let eBay affiliate marketers do your marketing (and your competition)…
Or,
You can C. Take the reigns into your own hands and do your own marketing.

What’s cool about Option C is that it is kind of an ‘all of the above’ sort of thing. Not only will you benefit from your own marketing efforts – you will continue to benefit from eBay and other affiliate marketers as well.

You must have a plan if you are going to be marketing your online business though… Before we get into how to develop a plan, I want to be very clear that marketing is not the same as advertising. Advertising can be a piece of your marketing plan; however, placing ads on various websites is not in itself a marketing plan.

New resource page for you

Many people have asked if I have a list of resources that I use (or have used) to grow my own online business. I do… and I finally put some of them onto a web page! At this point, I’m only sharing this page here on my blog – I don’t have any links to it from my other sites… I threw it together and would like to put a little more time into it before I let the whole world know about it ;-)

If you are looking for resources about blogging and internet marketing in general – check out my resource page here: www.jennihunt.com/resources

Enjoy! Oh – and if you see something missing that you are interested in learning more about… let me know… the resource page is a work in progress.

1. Thinking Ahead – Plans for 2009
=====================================

It’s November already… and before we get too into the Holiday Season, it is important to look ahead to the New Year. I know… I know… crazy – but, time flies and I guarantee if you take the time now to look ahead, it will be time well spent.

Some people like to get into great detail when they look ahead to the next year… I’m not one of those people. First of all, I just don’t have the time to plan every week out… but, more importantly, I have learned first hand, that things don’t always go as planned. Life happens… One of the beauties of working from home and having your own online business is that you are able to be flexible when life get’s in the way – besides… isn’t that why you have your own business? So life CAN get in the way? :-)

The best piece you can add to your plan for 2009 is flexibility. Start with an umbrella or high level plan for the year — think of 4-5 ways you want to grow your business or business goals and write them down. You could include things such as:
- find more inventory resources for reselling
- implement a plan for building a mailing list
- learn how to set up my own blog
- find blogs that I will regularly visit and comment on to become a part of the community and help establish myself in that particular market
- write a report to give away as incentive to join my mailing list
- increase ebay revenue by 20%
- add 2 new revenue streams
I could go on – but, you get the idea.

1. 5 Benefits of Outsourcing for Online Business Owners
=====================================

When you are in business for yourself, especially one that is conducted online like selling on eBay, you’ll find there are a number of different things for you to learn about that can save you time and make you money. Outsourcing is by far one of the more exciting things to discover and put to use.

All too common is the business owner who feels they have to do everything themselves in order for things to go smoothly in their online venture. This couldn’t be farther from the truth! Lately, we have covered a lot of ground about different ways to grow your eBay business. We have discussed using blogs to drive traffic to your auctions… and the value of a mailing list… how to use small reports to help build that mailing list… and more. But, a lot of these topics are new to eBay sellers and even though we have discussed them in some detail recently – many sellers don’t have the time to really figure out how to implement some of the new ideas they have. Outsourcing could be the key you are looking for…

Okay, you get that you need to be building a list… but, what in the world should you be mailing them?

And, hopefully you will too at the end of this article.

First of all, I’m going to assume that you understand the VALUE of building a mailing list from your eBay business. If not, please take a look at the archives at www.jennihunt.com/blog – and comment with any questions.
