New resource page for you
Many people have asked if I have a list of resources that I use (or have used) to grow my own online business. I do… and I finally put some of them onto a web page! At this point, I’m only sharing this page here on my blog – I don’t have any links to it from my other sites… I threw it together and would like to put a little more time into it before I let the whole world know about it
If you are looking for resources about blogging and internet marketing in general – check out my resource page here: www.jennihunt.com/resources
Enjoy! Oh – and if you see something missing that you are interested in learning more about… let me know… the resource page is a work in progress.

1. Thinking Ahead – Plans for 2009
=====================================
It’s November already… and before we get too into the Holiday Season, it is important to look ahead to the New Year. I know… I know… crazy – but, time flies and I guarantee if you take the time now to look ahead, it will be time well spent.
Some people like to get into great detail when they look ahead to the next year… I’m not one of those people. First of all, I just don’t have the time to plan every week out… but, more importantly, I have learned first hand, that things don’t always go as planned. Life happens… One of the beauties of working from home and having your own online business is that you are able to be flexible when life get’s in the way – besides… isn’t that why you have your own business? So life CAN get in the way?
The best piece you can add to your plan for 2009 is flexibility. Start with an umbrella or high level plan for the year — think of 4-5 ways you want to grow your business or business goals and write them down. You could include things such as:
- find more inventory resources for reselling
- implement a plan for building a mailing list
- learn how to set up my own blog
- find blogs that I will regularly visit and comment on to become a part of the community and help establish myself in that particular market
- write a report to give away as incentive to join my mailing list
- increase ebay revenue by 20%
- add 2 new revenue streams
I could go on – but, you get the idea.

1. Revisiting the Value of Your Mailing List
=====================================
It took me at least 2 years of runnning my online business before I started to seriously understand the incredible value of building a mailing list. I had a membership site and thought that my list of subscribers was enough… boy was I wrong!
I know we have talked about this topic numorous times before… but, it is worth bringing up again – and here is why.
Why I’ve Been UNSUBSCRIBING To Amazing Newsletters… and it feels great!
Is your inbox FULL of newsletters and ezine’s that you know are really great – but, you just don’t read?… and so they pile up… and pile up. I use to be scared of missing out on the latest and greatest… thinking that if I didn’t sign up for ‘this’ or ‘that’ I would regret it for… well, for as long as I was in business.
No More!
I have been unsubscribing like crazy to all these incredible newsletters… I know they are full of great content to help me grow my business… but, I also know that I am so overwhelmed with the 300+ emails I receive a day that I would benefit more if I just focused on a couple of newsletters from those I respected most. Let me tell you – it is doing wonders for my focus!
Jimmy D. Brown is one of those mentors who I will always follow. I respect the way he runs his business and he is incredibly successful at what he does. You probably haven’t heard of him – he isn’t really in the eBay world… but, he is all about building a list and driving traffic (both of which are applicable to eBay sellers).
Anyhow, last year I jumped at the chance to be privately coached by Jimmy… all I can say is… wow! He is one of the top internet marketers in the WORLD and only works 3 hours each day. He has launched three of the most successful internet marketing membership sites in the world, created more than 75 products, built a huge viral affiliate network, grows huge lists and generates tens of thousands of visitors monthly… working only 3 hours a day! And, his coaching program taught me how to do the same… let me tell you – this stuff WORKS!

1. Using Small Reports In Your eBay Business
=====================================
Lately we have been talking about driving traffic to your auctions (or website) through blogging… but, let’s take a step back and look at the big picture for a minute.
I’m going to make an assumption that the goal of eBay sellers is to bring in a profit (I know, it’s a stretch
. There are two types of sellers – those who are hobby sellers and those who are building a business. I’m going to focus on those who are interested in growing their business.
Okay – this might sound really simple… but, stay with me – sometimes it is good to realize how simple strategies really are.
How do you bring in money from selling on eBay?
There are a couple things you need…
First of all, you need to have a product to sell. You can sell your own product or someone elses… but, it is a must that you have ‘something’ to sell.
Secondly… to have a successful sale on eBay, you have to have a customer. Where does this customer come from? They come from the traffic or visitors that come to your auction listing… either through eBay or another link that directly goes to your listing. Every visitor to your site is a potential customer.

Rethinking Strategies That Have Been Around For Years
=====================================
Last night I received an email… honestly, I didn’t read the whole thing – in fact, I didn’t get past the first sentence or two… Not because the topic didn’t catch my attention, quite the opposite actually.
The topic was about UPSELLING. And, although it was referring to marketing online… my mind immediately went to a waitressing job I had college. I use to be a waitress at a restaurant that offered incredible customer service training. One of the courses we were required to take was about upselling. (If you think this has nothing to do with eBay… think again
Keep reading…)
Here is what upselling looks like in the restaurant business…
“Would you like fries with that?”
“How about some ice cream on your warmed slice of pie?”
Or
“Sure, I could get you coffee with that… but, a café mocha is a perfect complement. Would you like to try one?”
“Would you like another drink?”
“How about cheese on your hamburger?”
“Was that a large orange juice?”
… all asked while shaking your head ‘yes’
By the time my customer’s added cheese to their burger, ordered a large drink, added ice cream to their desert and upgraded to a café mocha – the bill went up $5 easy… and that translated to higher tips for me.
How important is efficiency?
I’ve discovered a new little cafe that I now call my ‘office’… Twice a week, I come here, sit in a cozy chair in the corner, and focus on my business. As much as I enjoy coming here… there is something that always bothers me about it.
There is absolutely no efficiency for how this place is run.
You walk in the door… and maybe there is someone at the register. Once they are free to help you – they take your order. I usually order a bagel with cream cheese (their french toast bagels are to DIE FOR!)… While I am pulling out my wallet to pay, the cashier steps away to get my bagel ready. They cut it and toast it… and a few minutes later set it in front of me. All the while, a line is building up behind me.
My latte order goes to the ‘drink bar’; however, there usually isn’t someone there to take it. So, after I have paid, the cashier will go to the drink bar and make my drink… again, while a huge line is building behind me. Another employee might come up to a register to help the next customer – but, they do the same thing… get the bagel, prepare the drink… all before helping the next customer. If you order a sandwich or salad – it is dealt with differently. They give you a pager and send you to find a table.
I’ve worked in the restaurant business and there is a huge part of me that wants to talk with the manager here and suggest another way of running the front counter.
